After Completing the Course
Anyone under the age of 18 must present a Driver Eligibility Certificate (DEC) to the NC DMV when applying for a permit or license.
This certificate certifies that the student (the applicant) is currently enrolled in school and is in good standing. The DEC is not needed until the student successfully completes a Driver’s Education course.
As the chief administrator of your school, you must contact the NCDNPE to request a DEC for your student. To do so, you may log into your NCDNPE account and submit a request or call the office. The office will mail the DEC within two business days.
Please note, a DEC is only good for 30 days from the date you as the administrator sign it. Since it is only good for 30 days, you will want to sign the DEC closer to the time in which your student will be applying for his/her permit.
