When is the Geography Fair? The HEAR Geography Fair is an annual event. Check your HEAR calendar for the event date, time, and location. What area can we choose? This year we will be backpacking through Europe. Choose a location in Europe - country, city, region, site, etc. Who can participate (age)? All ages can participate! The requirements of the project are determined by the parent/homeschool educator. A younger child can learn general information about an area. However, an older child in addition to the tabletop presentation, may be required to submit a written report to his/her educator, which could include population, exports, imports, history, etc. HEAR will not be collecting or requiring any information be submitted at the fair. How should I present my information? Most will be presented using a tri-fold board. You can use any method of display you choose, though. We look forward to the creative projects every year. Models of pyramids and the rainforest have been part of projects in the past. Students often dress in attire representing their area, also. What information should I include? The parent/educator should set the requirements for the project, however, some ideas are: location, geographical regions/landmarks, population, language, food, brief history, attire, work force, imports, exports, music, art, animals, and plants. Can several children work together on one project? Yes! Many families choose for siblings to work together on one location. Students can work together on a project regardless of whether they are in the same family or school. Will there be placing/awards? All students are recognized for their hard work by being presented a certificate. Who can attend the event? All are welcomed to attend the event! Invite your families, friends, and anyone you know who is interested in homeschooling. HEAR Members, please attend to support the students even if you will not a have a project in the fair. Fun for all who attend! Last year children received a passport as they toured the world. This year younger children will have a map to mark as they go around the world. Older children will receive a fact-finding scavenger hunt! How to register/sign up! Registration will begin at the midyear meeting, which is typically in January of each year. You can register on the "member page" of the HEAR website after the midyear meeting. Registration is important so that we have recognition items prepared for all students participating. Only those entering a project need to register. Members who plan to attend, but not enter a project, do not need to register. Additional Questions Please refer to your HEAR Calendar of Events for the registration deadline and the event coordinator. You may contact the event coordinator directly or email the HEAR group, [email protected]. You may access our HEAR calendar on the Member Page of our website. |
